Open Loop Energy
Bring control software into the field.
Open Loop Energy makes control systems for mine water trucks. I joined a difficult hardware project, reorganized it, and helped deliver it on time.
The problem
Water trucks spray the haul roads at mine sites. The control system must know where to spray and how much water it uses.
The project had custom hardware, detailed requirements, a lot of technical debt, and a fixed date.
Define where the truck sprays
I built and supported tools to configure zones. A zone tells the truck where to apply water on the mine roads.
The illustration shows the idea of a zone. It is an AI concept illustration, not a photo of a real site.
Move the truck data
The trucks record flow, gallons, and location. I worked on the logs and SFTP transfer that bring this data off the truck.
I wrote Python and SQL tools that turn the data into reports for the mine.
Deliver on site
I reorganized the project to reduce its technical debt and fit its detailed requirements.
I trained crews at mine sites and supported the system in production.
- Zones and controls Where the truck applies water.
- Truck data Flow, gallons, and location.
- Logs and transfer Log capture and SFTP transfer.
- Reports and support Python and SQL tools, and mine-site support.
What I built
- Zone configuration tools
- Water-truck telemetry: flow, gallons, and location
- Log capture and SFTP transfer
- Python and SQL report tools
- Mine-site training and production support
Result
- We delivered the product on time after I reorganized the project.
- The system went into field use at mine sites, with my training and support.
Truck and console images are current Open Loop product images; the hardware generation may differ from 2018–2020, and I did not design all of the hardware. The concept image is an AI illustration with no real site data.
